ROCKFORD DIOCESE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Vocation Corner: What Does God Ask Of Us?
This weekend’s Gospel passage has a great deal to tell us about our relationship to God. Jesus speaks His famous line: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” It is clear what belongs to Caesar in our lives. We follow laws, pay taxes, and do our best to be law abiding citizens. However, the more relevant question that this passage poses is “What is it that we owe to God?” This is not as easy to see because we often think of payment in terms of money or property. Jesus, though, does not expect anything like that from us. No, He expects something much more. He expects us to give God our very selves! We do not owe Him simply a part of our time or part of our life. Rather, we owe Him all that we have and are. In the same way that a king uses the money that he receives from his people to build up his kingdom, so God also uses what He receives from us in order to build up His kingdom. This means that if we are willing to give our whole lives over to Him, then He is going to use us to do great things and to glorify Himself! Is there anything better that we could possibly wish to do with our lives? Of course not. He made all of us with a specific plan in mind. Simply give yourself over to Him in everything you do and allow Him to build up His kingdom with your life in whatever way that He has planned.

“Conversion and vocation are two sides of the same coin.” ~Pope Francis~
The hundredfold Workshop is a large scale diocesan event to help create a culture of vocations in the Diocese of Rockford. The half-day event will re-ignite our focus on vocations- to marriage, family, priesthood, and religious life- which flow from our baptismal call to discipleship. Practically speaking, the workshop will focus creating a parish-based Vocation Ministry to educate and inspire adults and young people.
Who Should Attend
All Catholics interested in helping to promote vocations are invited. In particular, this includes lay leaders such as Parish Council Presidents or catechists, as well as those with an official capacity, such as priests, deacons, sisters, parish staff, DREs, Catholic school staff and faculty, youth ministers, campus ministers, etc.
Free to Attend
There is no cost to attend the workshop. Lunch is provided.
Rhonda Gruenewald is the author of Hundredfold: A Guide for Parish Vocation Ministry, Based in Houston, Rhonda has been invited by many bishops to help start vocation ministries in their dioceses. Audiences love her charm, wit, and wisdom-not to mention her practical know-how about reaching young people with a pro-vocations message.
